Informed Birth Choices

Childbirth Education

Our evidence-based classes provide preparation for natural childbirth while cultivating acceptance of all outcomes. They present a woman and family centered approach that emphasizes informed desision making and nurturing yourselves and your baby for the best possible start.

We recognize that confidence and relaxation are the determining factors in being able to meet the challanges of childbirth.  By replacing the unknown with knowledge, fear and tension can be lessened and replaced with calm focus. In our classes we help you learn to center yourself on your slow, deep breathing, as well as discover your own methods to help meet the intensity, spontaneity and challenges of labor.  Having the ability to communicate your needs to your support person/team, as well as to your attendant(s), are also keys to proactively giving birth.

Labor and birth are transformative and unique to everyone.  Through these classes you will learn the tools to work with your body during the process of giving birth.  You will have the knowledge to make you own best choices at each point along the way.

On a practical level, the series covers:
  • Philosophy and benefits of natural childbirth
  • Communication and decision making
  • Prenatal comfort
  • Cultural influences on birth
  • Nutrition and exercise
  • Physiology of birth
  • Hospital procedures and options
  • Medication and pain relief options
  • Relaxation and comfort techniques
  • Breathing and coping skills
  • Complications and unexpected outcomes
  • Breastfeeding
  • Newborn expectations and concerns
